Over $6500 Raised at Rockathon!

We rocked last Saturday!
Fourteen area non-profit organizations were represented at our 1st annual Cedric Theel Toyota Scion Rockathon. We kept the rockers busy with bingo, trivia, even a little karoke entertainment. Of course there was some free food and beverages,too.

The winning organization was American Cancer Society Relay for Life - they raised $1233.50 and will receive an additional $500 from Cedric Theel Toyota Scion for their efforts. We had so much fun, we'll do it again next year and raise even more money!

Dan and his friend finished the ND500 Road Rally, but didn't place very high in the ranks. They did get a nice trophy for trying though! They also had a lot of fun and made a ton of new friends.

Dan and his Swagger Team left the state early this morning and have already received their first speeding ticket. In case you just joined us, Dan is driving the Cedric Theel Toyota Swagger Wagon in the ND500 Road Rally which covers 2500 miles over 4 days.
The 50 vehicles left Mandan, ND early this morning and will finish in Jackson Hole sometime Sunday.

Road Ready for the Rally

Our four Rally Support vehicles will be in the thick of it, assisting in videography and lots of other things associated with Road Rallies. The crew will be using the 4Runner and Tundra, with the windows that roll down in the back, to get some awesome shots.

Of course, we're not worried about breakdowns. These are Toyotas, known for their dependability and reliability. They can take anything this Rally throws at them, over every inch of the 2,500-mile course. All of us at Cedric Theel Toyota are getting excited for the ND 500 Road Rally. 50 Cars will leave Bismarck on July 29th, travel for 2500 miles over 4 days and end up in Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Our very own Dan will pilot the Swagger Wagon. We feel the Swagger Wagon is the perfect vehicle for this event - built for comfort on the road, especially when he needs to take a break. Dan can then slip into the back and watch a movie, catch a few zzzzzzzzzzzs, have a snack.

Prius continues to lead the way

Just returned from a vacation in California and rented a Prius while we were there. As anyone who has been to southern California can tell you, traffic can get a little congested. There is a lot of starting and stopping, waiting, sudden accelerations and braking.....everything that contributes to getting bad gas mileage. (If you're driving a conventional combustion engine vehicle)

The Toyota Prius was phenomenol. We drove over 300 miles and used just 1/2 tank of gas. The fill before taking it back to the rental company was $17.00.

Cedric Theel Toyota has a nice selection of Toyota Prius' on the lot. Come on out and take one for a spin. The ride is quiet and smooth - everything you've come to expect from Toyota.

ND500 Road Rally

Coming up at the end of July, The Cedric Theel Toyota Swagger Wagon will be participating in the ND500 Road Rally. This fun event will take place over three days as the vehicles head to Denver, then Salt Lake City and finally Yellowstone National Park.
Dan and his friend will navigate the Swagger Wagon through back roads and alleys to try and capture some sort of trophy. Maybe they have one for "Vehicle disguised as a van, but really a Road Rally Warrior"

What's Jack Driving Now?

In March of this year, Cedric Theel Toyota started a promotion with a local radio personality - Jack Michaels. 'What's Jack Driving Now' has been going on for three months and he is having a great time with his Toyotas!

Jack started out with a Toyota Camry and was pleasantly surprised at all of the room the Camry has to offer. He filled it full of kids and kids' stuff and had room to spare!

Next, we supplied Jack with a Toyota Tundra. He mentioned something about feeling real 'manly' driving it. Of course, it's ok if women drive Tundras, too!

Jack is just dropping off the Rav4 he drove in May. That's good, because we are having a tough time keeping Rav4s in stock. They are our hottest vehicle right now. Jack especially liked the way the rear door opens. It swings to the side instead of the top, so it doesn't have the chance to come down and bump you in the head!

During the month of June, Jack will be driving a Toyota Sienna - better known as the 'Swagger Wagon'. If Jack wasn't cool before, he will be when he gets done driving this vehicle! Keep your car clean

This is probably the worst time of year for keeping your car clean - it melts, it rains, it snows, it melts. However, it is important to wash it periodically. Sand, dirt and salt build up and can affect the finish on your vehicle over time.

In North Dakota, most people will go to an automated car wash. If you like to do-it-yourself, make sure you use lots of soap and rinse well!

The inside of your vehicle can be damaged by the same contaminants as the outside. Clean your mats - vacuum or wash down; wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth; clean windows and vacuum seats and floors.

Keeping your car clean will help preserve the interior and exterior as well as improve trade-in value.

Why buy an extended service contract?

When you buy a new or used vehicle, you are always faced with the question - 'should I buy the extended service contract/warranty?'

Personally, everytime I have purchased a used vehicle, I have bought the extended service warranty and got my money's worth. There was either a break down that required a tow, or a very expensive repair job.

I guess that is why you purchase homeowner's insurance and health insurance. You never know what might happen.

There are several options to consider when purchasing an extended service contract. Plus, you should consider the vehicle you are purchasing. How old is it, shape of engine, tires, etc.

The 2011 Sienna has arrived

Now - on to the new Sienna! Toyota has redesigned the family van - it really looks cool. Seriously - this is a van everyone will enjoy driving, even dads! As the brochure says: 'Sienna minivan is expanding its appeal well beyond soccer moms.'

The new design changes the aerodynamics, which improve the handling stability of the Sienna. It also comes well-equipped with dual-stage front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger and side curtain airbags cover the full length of the cabin.

Kids will enjoy the new rear-seat Dual View Entertainment system that is available. Bigger kids will enjoy the expanded legroom.

A Few Car Buying Tips

First of all, if you are bringing in a trade, make sure it's clean - inside and out. Wash it well, vacuum the interior, clean out the glove box and cargo/trunk area. This may seem trivial, but it gives the dealership an idea of how the vehicle has been taken care of.

Make sure you take a test drive, especially if you are buying a used vehicle. Test the interior heating and cooling system and make sure all the doors and windows open and close, lock and unlock. You should test braking, sudden acceleration and how it handles on the highway.

You should ask yourself how you will use the vehicle - errands around town or lots of highway driving? If you will be spending a lot of time in your vehicle, you will want to be sure it is a comfortable fit. If you'll be hauling kids and their gear, check on cargo space and if they have enough room for their feet, etc.

There are a lot of factors that will go into your decision to purchase a vehicle. Try to cover all the bases before you sign on the dotted line.

Drive a Venza

Today our showroom is full of Venzas. This crossover not only looks really sharp, it is engineered like no other vehicle. You can experience this just by getting into a Venza.

The low step-in height allows you to enter and exit smoothly, eliminating the feeling of having to climb into the vehicle. A larger door opening and higher roof lessen the need to 'stoop' when entering.

The Venza also offers a commanding view of the road. The height of the driver's seat and design of the hood increases the line of sight, allowing you to see more of the road in front of you.

It is currently 14 degrees below zero and the windchill is -35. The sales staff at Cedric Theel has been working hard clearing the lot all morning. Normally they would wait until the temperature is a bit friendlier, but Saturday is the 21st annual Indoor Old Fashioned sale. Preparations have to be made! The streets around Bismarck-Mandan are slick! Freshly plowed areas are shiny and slippery. Be careful out there.

More Winter Driving Tips

Another blast of wintry weather may be on the way. Snow and ice are tricky to drive on, but with some common sense and defensive driving you can stay out of our Body Shop!

1) Clear snow and ice off all windows and away from lights, signals, etc. Make sure you can see and make sure others can see what you are planning to do.

2) Drive Slow - drive for the conditions. It is ok to drive under the posted speed limit. Remember, that speed limit is for clear pavement and warm temps.

3) Keep your vehicles tires inflated properly.

4) Leave plenty of room for stopping. (this means you may have to drive slower)

5) Bridge decks and exit ramps tend to be slicker than the roadway. Use extra caution.

6) Don't get overconfident in your SUV, and if you're driving a truck, remember they take longer to stop than cars.

Last Minute Gift Ideas

There are only 2 and 1/2 shopping days until Christmas. Are you ready?

If you still need a couple gifts under the tree, head to Cedric Theel Toyota. We still have a good supply of caps, t- shirts and sweatshirts. How about an emergency car kit for that frequent traveler, or put together some car care products for those that like to keep their vehicles nice and shiny!

Here is another idea - make some fudge! This is a great recipe and fairly easy to make. The hardest part is standing and stirring for 8 - 10 minutes. Whip up a batch for the mail carrier or the neighbor that snowblows your walk all the time.

Fudge Recipe:

1 ½ cups choc. chips             ¼ pound butter
2 cups mini marshmallows     2 Tablespoons vanilla

Mix above ingredients in large mixing bowl

1 large can carnation milk     4 cups sugar

Mix milk and sugar in heavy kettle, bring to a boil and boil for 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly.Pour over first mixture and stir until melted. Pour into buttered 13x9 pan.

Optional: 2 cups chopped nuts

Winter Driving Tips

Cedric Theel Toyota Scion Winter Driving Tips:

1) Get your vehicle’s regular service done now. Tire pressure, hoses, and belts need to be checked so you don’t have problems when the temperature dips.

2) Make sure your battery and charging system are ready for the cold weather. Batteries need more power in the winter. Your cooling system also needs to have the correct mix. We can check these systems out for you in our service department.

3) Check your defrost setting, windshield wipers and washer fluid level. Make sure you have a good ice scraper and brush in your vehicle. If you have a rear-window defroster, check that out as well. Clear off your car, windows and head lights and taillights before driving off. You need to be able to see clearly, and others need to be able to see you.

4) Stash a winter survival kit. Include the following: a sleeping bag; extra clothing; flashlight; water; shovel; blanket; flares. The Parts Department at Cedric Theel Toyota Scion has a roadside assistance kit – what a great gift idea!

5) Keep your cellular phone charged.

6) Know how to stop on the ice – do you have antilock brakes, traction control or front-wheel drive? Each will handle a bit differently in snowy conditions.
